The Higher Diploma in French is designed for graduates seeking admission to a French master's program without an honors degree in the subject, or those wishing to enhance their qualifications with an additional Higher Diploma in Arts.
Course objectives include:
developing advanced competencies in French language studies and practical application
enhancing abilities in textual analysis and critical discussion
exploring specialized interdisciplinary aspects of French studies
fostering an appreciation of Francophone cultures worldwide
Available modules primarily mirror those offered to second and final-year undergraduate students. The French degree curriculum is structured around several key components:
language skill development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening
foundational courses examining cultural and literary studies
specialized subjects spanning multiple disciplines, including literature, linguistics, philosophical traditions, cultural analysis, social structures, and global Francophone studies.
It is intended for those who already have a 3 or 4-year primary degree, preferably in the area of Arts or the Sciences, and who wish to study the subject French intensively over one academic year. The Higher Diploma in Arts is a conversion programme and applicants would not normally have studied the relevant subject to the Honours Degree level previously.
