There's currently a strong need for Irish language teachers in secondary schools, including both English-medium institutions and Gaelcholist. Our four-year BEd program prepares students to become certified Irish teachers while also specializing in a second subject. Available second subject options include French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Mathematical Studies.
This program features rigorous language instruction alongside studies in literature, culture, and history of the relevant language regions. Participants will complete a semester in the Gaeltacht, and those combining Irish with another language will spend an Erasmus semester abroad in France, Italy, Germany, or Spain.
The teacher training component incorporates practical school placements and classroom experience. This distinctive four-year pathway offers graduates the chance to embark on the rewarding career of teaching Irish alongside another subject.
