The Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Directing stands as Ireland's inaugural fully practice-based graduate program in this field. Delivered at Trinity College Dublin's prestigious The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art - the School of Creative Arts' professional training center - this groundbreaking program offers hands-on learning.
During their studies, participants will acquire competencies across various theatre roles beyond directing, aiming to achieve fluency in diverse creative processes. This cross-disciplinary approach enriches directing skills by expanding students' understanding of theatrical production. The curriculum includes practical sessions led by experts, covering acting techniques, set design, stage management, production coordination, and technical theatre operations.
Candidates should have a good honours degree of upper second class or above, or equivalent qualification in a cognate area. A portfolio of work including a critical assessment of recently directed work is an essential part of the application process.
Proven natural ability and prior experience as demonstrated at interview will also be considered.
