The School of Computer Science and Statistics maintains a vibrant Ph.D. program with approximately 200 current students. The program aims to cultivate world-leading research that creates measurable societal impact while developing the next generation of researchers and academics.
The Statistics Department hosts one of Ireland's most dynamic research teams in this discipline. Faculty and graduate researchers focus on: cutting-edge computational methods in Bayesian and classical statistics (driven by emerging scientific and engineering applications), theoretical advancements in modern regression techniques, and specialized statistical applications across business, industry, and social sectors. Funded research projects supported by national and international organizations currently include: functional approximation methods for Bayesian computation (Laplace and variational Bayes), paleoclimate modeling, astronomical image processing through spectral source separation, marine biodiversity assessment, reliability analysis of telecom networks, and intelligent traffic flow optimization.

Qualification Requirements

Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.

  • TOEFL: 88 internet-based, 570 paper-based, 230 computer-based
  • University of Cambridge: Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2), Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE Academic: a minimum score of 63 to be eligible (with no section score below 59)
