The word "midwife" translates to "with woman." As a midwife, your role involves assisting women and their families during one of life's most significant moments, providing support throughout pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum phase. Midwives are essential in maintaining health, enabling natural childbirth, and empowering women to make educated decisions about their care. They serve as primary caregivers who ensure consistent support while respecting women's autonomy during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. The foundational principles of midwifery include:
Normalcy: Birth is recognized as a natural, healthy process in life.
Woman-focused: Midwifery centers on expectant mothers and their families, offering personalized care in maternity services.
Dignity: Care is provided with deep respect for each individual's uniqueness, honoring diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
Collaboration: A trusting partnership between midwife and mother forms the basis of practice, fostering shared decision-making and mutual empowerment.
Priority care: A midwife's responsibilities should always prioritize the well-being of the woman and her family while upholding high-quality maternity services.
Research-informed: Practice is guided by current, reliable evidence.
Representation: Midwives act as advocates for women and their families throughout the care process.
