The Classics, Ancient History, and Archaeology (CLAHA) program offers a comprehensive approach to exploring the ancient world through its history, literature, art, archaeology, culture, and philosophy, combined with the study of one or both classical languages. With flexible academic paths, you can tailor your studies to focus on Single Honors in Classics (Latin and Greek), Ancient History and Archaeology, or Classical Civilization, or opt for various Joint Honors and Major/Minor combinations. No prior language experience is required, as both Greek and Latin can be started from beginner level.
Trinity's Department of Classics boasts a globally recognized reputation, with courses led by leading experts in their disciplines. The university has a distinguished 400-year tradition of teaching Classics and remains unique in maintaining dedicated professorships for both Greek and Latin. Instruction blends lectures, hands-on classes, and intimate seminars designed to foster engaging debates and cultivate independent thought. Students can join archaeological digs, participate in study trips to Greece and Italy (for credit or personal enrichment), and even spend a semester or full year studying abroad.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
