The Ancient and Medieval History and Culture program focuses on the era spanning approximately 2000 BC to 1500 AD. It examines societal transformations, political systems, religious traditions, and artistic/architectural developments that have influenced our modern world. Throughout this four-year course, students will investigate various themes such as evolving governance structures (from Greek democracy to medieval monarchies and empires), Europe's formation, ancient and medieval spiritual traditions (from polytheistic worship to Christianity's rise), legal system evolution, and warfare's transformative impact. The curriculum also covers educational advancements like the birth of universities, shifting perspectives on gender roles and sexuality, women's societal positions, and the diverse artistic/architectural movements that characterized this historical period.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
