Our Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology holds accreditation from the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), the country's leading professional organization for psychology practitioners. You can find a complete listing of PSI-recognized undergraduate programs on their official website.
After successfully finishing this four-year program at our Athlone campus, graduates qualify to pursue advanced psychology studies. It's important to note that only PSI-approved undergraduate degrees provide access to specialized postgraduate training, including Clinical, Counseling, and Educational Psychology doctoral programs. Our degree also grants graduate membership status with both the PSI and British Psychological Society, making our graduates eligible for any postgraduate programs requiring BPS accreditation.
Psychology represents the scientific exploration of human cognition and behavior, investigating thought processes, emotions, actions, and social interactions. Throughout this program, you'll cultivate essential competencies in research methodologies, analytical reasoning, problem-solving techniques, professional communication, and career development. If these areas spark your curiosity, this program will align well with your academic interests.
As an applied psychology program, we emphasize hands-on learning experiences. The curriculum includes a full-semester work placement during third year, along with specialized small-group sessions covering counseling techniques, experimental psychology labs, statistical analysis workshops, and other practical components. Assessment methods combine applied coursework with traditional examinations to evaluate student progress.
This program serves as excellent preparation for those considering professional psychology careers or advanced academic study, whether in psychology or related social science disciplines.
