The Agri-Biosciences degree program is developed in partnership with industry leaders to address the increasing demand for skilled scientists specializing in plant and animal biotechnologies.
Biotechnology serves as a key driver in enhancing both sustainability and efficiency within the agricultural and food industries.
The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications, featuring up-to-date subjects with global relevance. Learning is enriched through practical examples, case analyses, hands-on projects, field trips, digital resources, and engaging multimedia. A significant portion of the program (around 50% of contact hours) is dedicated to laboratory work, ensuring students gain comprehensive technical expertise.
During Years 1 and 2, students build a solid biological foundation while taking specialized courses in animal and plant sciences, along with agricultural and environmental biotechnology.
Years 3 and 4 allow for deeper specialization, covering essential areas such as DNA technology applications, immunology, veterinary diagnostics, animal nutrition, reproductive science, food safety, genetics, and the microbiome's role in health and sustainability.
A highlight of the program is the compulsory third-year work placement, where students spend an entire semester (January to June) working within a relevant organization. This immersive experience provides exposure to industry standards, advanced analytical methods, and opportunities to refine professional and interpersonal skills.
