Ireland's economy relies heavily on agriculture, with most farms being family-run operations where the farmer serves as owner, manager, and operator. During the initial two years, the program focuses on providing students with essential knowledge and practical skills for running a contemporary commercial farm. The third year enhances students' capabilities in business management, scientific understanding, and information technology. Agricultural modules are taught at Kildalton Agricultural College, while science-related courses occur at SETU Waterford, with complimentary shuttle service connecting both locations. Second-year students complete a 12-week placement on Teagasc-selected premium commercial farms to gain hands-on experience. Some participants opt for international farm placements, such as in New Zealand, for additional practical exposure.
