Faculty research expertise spans diverse areas including applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, second language learning, corpus linguistics, bilingualism and multilingualism, second language teaching methods, intercultural studies, intercultural skills development, and the global impact of English. The program also encourages investigations in connected fields, such as language-specific applied linguistics and intercultural research involving German, Spanish, or French. Candidates may complete the MLitt degree or, if their work meets the School Research Student Progression Committee's standards, transition into the structured PhD program in Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies.
