The Master of Arts in Translation Studies / MA i Staidéar an Aistriúcháin at Dublin City University is a full-time, one-year program offering advanced language and technical instruction, culminating in a postgraduate degree in Translation Studies. DCU delivers an extensive postgraduate curriculum in Translation Studies, featuring diverse modules such as Translation Technology, Audiovisual Translation, Research Methods, Translation Theory, and Simulated Translation Bureau. Participants engage in Translation Practice modules with options including French, German, Irish, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, translating into English (except for Irish language students who translate into Irish). Qualification Requirements

For admission to the MA in Translation Studies, successful applicants will have:

  • A degree at the level of an Irish or UK Honours undergraduate degree (H2.2 or above) or equivalent, or
  • Applicants with appropriate combinations of professional qualifications and experience may also be considered. This includes discipline-specific knowledge and know-how; transferable skills; basic research competency; personal effectiveness.
  • This Programme requires a high level of Language Competence:
  • Applications are invited from graduates normally with at least a Second Class Honours degree in any one (for the one-language route) or two (for the two-language route) of the following language(s): Irish, Chinese, French, German, Japanese or Spanish.
  • In addition, applicants should preferably have spent a total of at least 12 months in a country/countries where the language(s) they wish to study are spoken.
  • Consideration will be given to other subject specialists with appropriate linguistic competence.

English language Requirements

  • Non-native speakers should have a degree in English or advanced English skills (e.g. IELTS 7.0 points, Cambridge Proficiency Pass or TOEFL 600/250 points). Applicants may be called for interview, and their levels of English tested.

  • CBTOEFL - Overall score 237.

  • TOEFL iBT - Overall score 92 or above.
  • English Test for Academic and Professional Purposes (ETAPP) - C1
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CAP) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) - 63 with a minimum of 59 in all components.
