Our program ranks among Canada's top graduate offerings in Geography. We excel in both biophysical systems and critical human geography studies. Students conduct research across the globe, from the Arctic to Southern Africa to Southeast Asia, while also utilizing York University's advanced facilities for hydrology, GIS/remote sensing, climatology, and biogeochemistry research.
Our MA and MSc alumni apply their expertise across various fields such as environmental policy development, refugee support services, eco-tourism initiatives, government roles (including positions in labor and development ministries and municipal governance), peace advocacy, and secondary/post-secondary education.

Students pursue field research across diverse global locations from polar regions to tropical zones, while also working in York's specialized laboratories for water systems, geospatial analysis, climate science, and ecosystem chemistry.
You'll become part of a 65-member student community guided by over 30 faculty experts connected to renowned research centers including the Urban Studies Institute, Global Labor Research Hub, Refugee Studies Center, Feminist Research Collective, Asian Studies Network, and Latin American/Caribbean Research Center. All enrolled graduate students receive financial assistance through teaching positions or academic awards, with many additionally securing field research funding from faculty research projects.
