York University provides both a Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in dance. The MA program emphasizes exploring dance within cultural, intellectual, and social frameworks, while the MFA focuses on intensive studio practice and contemporary choreographic research through collaborative creation. Launched in 1976, the MA in Dance spans three terms and allows students to take complementary courses in disciplines like Music, Anthropology, Visual Arts, English, and History. There's also an accelerated three-year dual-degree option combining MA and MBA qualifications. Our program's balanced focus on theory and practice prepares graduates for diverse careers in community arts, production, therapy, education, administration, and archival work.
