The Philosophy Graduate Program provides comprehensive MA and PhD training, equipping MA students for doctoral program admission and helping PhD candidates build professional research expertise. Our curriculum focuses on key specialties: (i) ethics, political philosophy, and legal philosophy; (ii) cognitive science, philosophy of mind, and language studies; (iii) 19th-20th century philosophical history; and (iv) scientific philosophy and epistemology.
We employ both classical and cross-disciplinary methodologies, incorporating empirical, theoretical, and practical perspectives. Our faculty actively collaborates with scholars across multiple fields such as legal studies, psychological research, neuroscientific inquiry, and medical ethics. Students can enhance their education through specialized diplomas like the Value Theory and Applied Ethics Diploma or the Neuroscience Graduate Diploma.
While structured as a 4-year program, completion often extends beyond this timeframe. Doctoral candidates must fulfill all degree requirements within 18 terms (6 years) of full-time or part-time enrollment, following Graduate Studies Registration Policies. This timeframe excludes periods of approved Leave of Absence, Parental Leave, Maternal Leave, or when required courses are unavailable.
Graduates with a Master's Degree in Philosophy, while B+ is the minimum GPA average to be eligible for admission to the program, successful applicants normally have a GPA of at least an A-.
