The History Graduate Program encourages in-depth exploration of historical issues through diverse methodologies. These encompass gender studies, transnational and comparative analysis, along with economic, political, cultural, and social historical approaches.
Renowned for its Canadian history specialization, the program also covers British, Caribbean, European, Latin American, U.S., and East Asian histories, as well as African and African diaspora studies and Greco-Roman world history. Key themes include migration, Indigenous studies, and environmental history. Students can pursue coursework and guidance in ancient, medieval, early modern, and contemporary historical periods. The program maintains robust connections with York University's research centers, including the Harriet Tubman Institute for African Diaspora Research, the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies, and the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Research.
