PhD candidates collaborate closely with an assigned advisor who provides research guidance. Admission to the program requires formal faculty sponsorship, as each student must secure a supervising professor. The curriculum focuses on cutting-edge biological research across multiple specialties. You'll learn from an engaged faculty of distinguished scholars, including recipients of prestigious honors like Steacie Fellowships, Young Investigator awards, York Research Chairs, and Canada Research Chairs. Research opportunities span both traditional model organisms and diverse species, including human studies. York University offers advanced research infrastructure (such as molecular core labs and mass spectrometry equipment) while fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Graduates from a recognized university with a master’s degree or equivalent in biological science, with at least a B+ average, or with a medical degree, may be admitted as candidates (PhD I) in a program of study and research leading to the PhD degree.
