The Department of Integrative Biology brings together faculty specializing in three interconnected disciplines, granting both MSc and PhD degrees in: Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Comparative Physiology. Investigative work spans diverse life forms (from microorganisms to plants and animals) across various biological scales (ranging from molecular and cellular processes to complete ecosystems). Foundational research serves as a platform to tackle significant local and worldwide challenges.
Our graduate program provides doctoral opportunities in three core concentrations: 1) ecology; 2) evolutionary biology; and 3) comparative physiology. These focus areas emphasize (though aren't limited to) experimental methods in both field and laboratory environments, while fostering connections between theoretical and practical studies. We actively promote cross-disciplinary research and, when beneficial, incorporate faculty knowledge from throughout the university into student advisory committees.
Applicants require a Master’s degree in a wide range of areas, including: Integrative Biology, Wild Life Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Marine and Freshwater Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology and Genetics. Students with advanced academic and research aptitudes can apply for transfer into the PhD program after partial completion of the MSc degree requirements.
