The Pathobiology Department's research explores various domains including animal pathogens and their host interactions, emerging zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, immunological and genetic factors in disease resistance, cancer mechanisms, and inflammatory conditions. Our studies span farm animals, lab specimens, aquatic life, wildlife, zoo species, and pets, examining everything from molecular processes to population-level impacts. We provide research-intensive MSc (2-year) and PhD (4-year) programs for both veterinary and non-veterinary scholars across all departmental disciplines. For DVM holders, we offer specialized veterinary training through DVSc (3-year) and Graduate Diploma (1-year) programs.
Applicants require a DVM (or equivalent) degree with high academic standing from a program that provides eligibility for the practice of veterinary medicine in Ontario. Alternatively, applicants with a DVM (or equivalent) degree can be admitted after completion of an acceptable graduate diploma, MSc, or PhD degree with an upper 'B' average.
