Our world is increasingly urbanized. Metropolitan areas worldwide confront urgent social and environmental issues stemming from climate change, new disease threats, global population movements, and widening social disparities. Yet these urban centers also hold the keys to solving these challenges. Through the Cities, Regions, Planning program, you'll develop skills in equitable urban interventions, advisory techniques, governance processes, and advocacy methods to address urban expansion (and contraction), infrastructure needs, immigrant integration, and ecological preservation.
This program explores pathways for more equitable and sustainable urban development through three focused areas:
Urban Worlds - examines diverse urban lifestyles across the globe, analyzing how residents navigate work, leisure, and daily life within an evolving network of interconnected cities.
Urban Planning and Politics - investigates the systems, stakeholders, conflicts, and decision-making processes that shape communities, metropolitan regions, and urban networks.
Urban Political Ecology - studies how natural systems and environmental factors influence city development, urban design, and metropolitan living.
