The Bachelor of Applied Science (Building Conservation) (Honours) program at Algonquin College's Heritage Institute equips students for specialized careers focused on preserving, understanding, and sustaining our architectural heritage and cultural resources. This degree emphasizes both traditional craftsmanship and modern conservation principles, offering career flexibility in heritage preservation, renovation projects, or general construction. Throughout the program, students gain:hands-on expertise in traditional building trades and heritage conservation techniquesa thorough grounding in contemporary heritage conservation theory, embracing environmentally conscious and culturally inclusive approachesadvanced research and analytical skills using practical methodologiesStudents engage with both traditional and modern construction methods across various materials, including wood joinery, stonework, timber framing, and log construction. The curriculum covers technical drawing (both manual and digital), business fundamentals, and professional standards. Participants examine conservation planning while considering social, environmental, legal, and ethical dimensions. The program features extensive industry collaboration through research projects, expert lectures, and field visits to heritage sites.
