Our planet grapples with urgent challenges concerning fairness in armed conflicts, population movements, wealth disparities, and ecological shifts. To properly examine and tackle these complex matters, a multidisciplinary approach becomes essential. The Master of Arts (MA) in Religion, Culture and Global Justice presents an innovative academic opportunity, providing students with a vital interdisciplinary platform to explore religion's role in these worldwide concerns.
While addressing policy matters, the curriculum encourages rigorous examination of cultural and religious dynamics along with their political consequences in an increasingly interconnected world.
Our instructors, selected from Laurier's Religion and Culture and Global Studies departments, represent diverse expertise across humanities and social sciences, conducting international research. We integrate this broad knowledge into our teaching and mentorship, cultivating profound learning experiences and encouraging independent thought.
For students seeking deeper exploration, we offer a two-year, full-time thesis track. This alternative replaces the major research project with a thesis proposal in the first year, followed by thesis completion and oral defense in the second year.
Students must have the following:
English Proficiency
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 89, with minimum skill scores of 21 in each of the skills tests (speaking, writing, reading and listening).
Paper-based TOEFL: minimum of 573.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS): minimum score of 7.
Pearson Test of English (PTE): minimum score of 60.
The Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment: minimum score of 70.
