Doctoral candidates in this program gain insight into humanity's pressing concerns while cultivating the analytical and leadership capabilities to assess how these issues are tackled internationally. They also evaluate whether current solutions are both efficient and equitable.
The collaborative PhD in Global Governance, provided by Laurier University and the University of Waterloo at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, presents a distinctive platform for analyzing power structures and authority in international contexts. Alumni typically embark on careers as researchers, academics, or professionals across various sectors including private enterprises, governmental bodies at different levels, non-profit organizations, policy institutes, and media outlets.

Qualified full-time PhD candidates receive guaranteed funding of $30,000 in their first year, followed by $26,000 annually for the next three years.
Supplementary financial assistance is available through external awards, teaching or research positions, and faculty-sponsored scholarships.
A master’s degree in political science, history, economics, international development studies, international peace studies, globalization studies, environmental studies, or a related field with a minimum A- standing.
TOEFL iBT/TOEFL iBT Home Edition: minimum score of 89, with minimum skill scores of 21 in each of the skills tests (speaking, writing, reading and listening).
Paper-based TOEFL: minimum of 573.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS, IELTS Online): Academic - minimum score of 7.
