Our department fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, comparative analysis, and critical inquiry. Our selective graduate programs maintain a close-knit, supportive environment with strong faculty mentorship. Doctoral candidates frequently earn prestigious scholarships and pursue careers in academia, research, policy, and non-profit organizations after completing their studies.

Graduate students in our program are dynamic researchers who actively share their work. From 2009 to 2012, Sociology and Social Anthropology (SoSA) students delivered 38 conference and workshop presentations.

While the PhD program is structured as a four-year endeavor, most students require additional time—typically a fifth or sixth year—to complete their fieldwork and dissertation writing.
