Certified Educational Assistants play a vital role in empowering individuals with special needs, enabling them to fully engage in society while accessing educational resources and support services that help them achieve their maximum potential. VIU's Education Assistant and Community Support program equips students for a fulfilling career assisting individuals across all age groups who face mental, physical, and emotional challenges.
This eight-month certificate program for educational assistants trains graduates for positions in both public and private school systems, as well as community-based and residential programs serving people with disabilities. The flexible program allows for full-time or part-time study, offering practical training under the guidance of dedicated instructors committed to student achievement.

- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- International students who are BC high school graduates must have a minimum grade of 'C' in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program

- Volunteer or paid experience working with people who are mentally, physically or behaviourally challenged.
- VIU English Language Centre's - Successful completion of University Preparation Level 5
- International Baccalaureate English A1/A2 - Higher Level (HL)/ Standard Level (SL) grade 3 or higher
- IELTS 6.5 (with no band under 6.0)
