The field of Women's and Gender Studies employs an intersectional lens to examine societal issues and occurrences. It particularly focuses on how colonialism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia influence concepts of sex, gender, and sexuality, alongside distinctions rooted in class, (dis)ability, religious beliefs, ethnic background, and cultural norms. Our distinctive academic unit introduces these viewpoints to higher education and embodies feminist scholarship within the university setting. Courses welcome students across the gender and sexuality spectrum to explore feminist initiatives aimed at eliminating sexism, exploitation, and interconnected forms of societal oppression. The department fosters student diversity and curricular variety while providing tools to drive societal transformation.
Presently, there's growing demand for professionals with Women's and Gender Studies expertise across multiple sectors including social work, education, policy formulation, social welfare, medical services, psychological counseling, legal practice, media production, marketing, government operations, financial services, and organizational leadership.
