The MSWJD dual degree program is tailored for students seeking to earn both Master of Social Work (MSW) and Juris Doctor (JD) degrees concurrently. This accelerated pathway allows students to complete both degrees one year faster than pursuing them separately. Candidates with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) can finish in three years, while those holding an Honours degree in a related field can complete the program in four years. The curriculum is strategically designed to provide simultaneous exposure to both professions, featuring two interdisciplinary courses that blend legal and social work principles, perspectives, and professional development.
Graduates of the MSWJD program will be exceptionally prepared to meet the multifaceted demands of employers in legal and human service sectors. Potential career opportunities include positions with Children's Aid Societies, the Office of the Children's Lawyer, and Legal Aid organizations.
Applicants to the MSW/JD program must meet the independent admission criteria of the Faculty of Law and the School of Social Work. Once an applicant has met the minimum requirements of the Faculty of Law and the School of Social Work, a joint committee will convene to determine the applicant’s suitability for the MSW/JD program.
