The University of Manitoba's Faculty of Social Work created the Indigenous Knowledges-based Master of Social Work program to meet the demand for a curriculum specifically tailored to Indigenous populations, their worldviews, traditions, and community needs.
This Indigenous-focused MSW program enables students to:
practice from Indigenous frameworks; comprehend the colonial legacy shaping current realities;
grasp concepts of social equity, anti-oppression methods, decolonization, and Indigenous sovereignty; examine traditional helping approaches relevant to social work;
revitalize and uphold Indigenous principles, customs, and systems; strengthen Indigenous self-determination
foster strong ties with Indigenous organizations and communities while evolving as skilled social work professionals.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for admission to the Master of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges program, you must have a minimum of:

A Bachelor of Social Work degree or other 4-year undergraduate degree (by June 30 of the application year) from an accredited university recognized by the University of Manitoba with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B) in your last sixty credit hours of university study.
Foundation level for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree, but do not have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an accredited program or its equivalent


IELTS - 6.5 overall, TOEFL IBT - Overall score of 86, 20 in Reading, 20 in Writing, 20 in Listening, 20 in Speaking.
