The Master of Social Work degree offers both full-time and part-time enrollment options, with completion pathways through either a thesis or practicum. This advanced program expands upon the BSW foundation, providing an interdisciplinary focus on research, policy, and practice within specialized fields: northern and remote social work; Indigenous communities; women's services; and community-based research. The MSW curriculum equips graduates with enhanced competencies in social work research, policy development, and professional practice. The program structure supports independent scholarship, preparing students for leadership roles in administration, policy development, program evaluation, clinical practice, and human services research.
Full-time students entering with a relevant Bachelor's degree typically complete this 24-month program. The curriculum requires coursework, field placements, and either a thesis or practicum report. Thesis candidates must successfully defend their work orally. The standard program comprises 66 credit hours, evenly distributed across the two-year period.
