Family structures are constantly evolving. Acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on understanding of the transformations impacting families and society's reactions to these shifts. This curriculum delves into child development research, sexual health and relationships, the evolution of family structures through history, marital relationships, and gender-related topics. It integrates coursework from multiple academic fields such as sociology, psychology, social work, historical studies, and gender studies.
As Canada's only program of its kind, developed by internationally renowned scholars, it offers comprehensive perspectives on family transformations and societal adaptations. Students examine childhood development research, sexual health (both locally and globally), historical family patterns, marital relationships, women's concerns, evolving gender norms, and gerontology. The curriculum draws from diverse academic areas including sociology, psychological studies, social services, historical analysis, and feminist studies.
The Family and Social Relations program equips graduates for professional opportunities in youth services, counseling and rehabilitation, community support, case coordination, and numerous other related fields.
