The Sociology Major aims to cultivate students' sociological perspectives by encouraging critical examination of how societies form, sustain, and transform. By studying the discipline's historical, philosophical, and theoretical foundations, students gain conceptual and methodological skills to critically analyze all aspects of social life - from individual interactions to large social structures. Mount Royal's program emphasizes studying power dynamics and inequality, revealing how interconnected systems of dominance influence both individuals and society as a whole, while exploring methods of social resistance. Beyond developing critical thinking about everyday assumptions, a Sociology BA prepares students for graduate studies or diverse careers including research, social work, community activism, and education.
