Chemistry is a multifaceted field that touches every part of daily life—from what we observe and consume to the scents, textures, and flavors we experience. Waterloo's Chemistry programs, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, balance theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, equipping students for an expanding range of exciting career paths. Potential opportunities include investigating the origins of debilitating illnesses, creating medications to combat cancer, or evaluating ecological harm. The coursework demands mirror those of the Regular Thesis Option, with the stipulation that a minimum of two out of the four mandatory courses must be finished within the initial two terms. After this period, students dedicate two terms (eight months) to working in an industrial or government lab, culminating in a satisfactory work report. Upon returning to campus, students finalize their remaining courses, conduct research, and compose their M.Sc. thesis. Note: This pathway is exclusively open to domestic students.
