The Department provides stimulating programs for MMath and PhD degrees, featuring a diverse selection of courses across pure mathematics. Students may also enroll in relevant courses from other university departments. Each graduate student collaborates closely with their supervisor to develop a research paper or thesis for their master's degree, while PhD candidates receive guidance for original research. Comprehensive financial assistance is available through teaching and research assistantships, along with internal scholarships. Waterloo offers an affordable cost of living, and all programs are customized to individual student goals. Our alumni frequently pursue careers as university mathematics professors, while others apply advanced mathematical knowledge in fields like computer science, secondary or college education, or finance. Pure Mathematics graduates enjoy abundant opportunities in intellectually fulfilling professions.
