The MCC program delivers a distinctive learning opportunity for students seeking specialized education in climate change. Graduates will join the inaugural cohort of climate professionals, equipped to explore varied career opportunities across government, civil society, and global development sectors. Addressing climate change stands as one of society's greatest challenges this century. The escalating effects and looming threats of climate change call for urgent, decisive measures. As more nations and corporations announce climate emergencies and commit to carbon neutrality by 2050, the need for 'climate expertise' and skilled professionals with comprehensive understanding of climate science, policy, and management grows across all industries. The Department of Geography and Environmental Management provides two graduate programs designed to give students the focused expertise needed to evaluate and address carbon and climate risks. The University of Waterloo stands alongside global institutions in declaring a climate emergency, with its full statement available on the university's Climate Emergency Declaration webpage. As a leader in climate education, Waterloo launched Canada's first Master of Climate Change program, and its declaration highlights students as vital catalysts for transformation. Collaborating with campus partners, the university remains committed to preparing learners for climate-affected careers and fostering the necessary shifts in business, governance, and community sectors.
