Social Psychology developed to examine social movements, inequality, division, prejudice, and cultural conflicts. Its fundamental principle explores the reciprocal relationship between culture and cognition, demonstrating how societal influences and personal traits affect human thinking, feelings, and actions. Waterloo serves as the founding hub of Social Psychology in Canada, with our graduates holding prominent roles in research institutions nationwide (and internationally), as well as in key government and corporate positions. The Social Psychology program at Waterloo fosters a cooperative and forward-thinking research atmosphere. Students often collaborate with various professors, pursue multiple research projects, and employ advanced techniques including experiments, surveys, data analytics, and psychophysiological measurements. Regular seminars, lab sessions, and academic conferences provide ample platforms for students to share their discoveries. Ranked among North America's elite programs, we tackle significant societal issues—whether in personal connections, group dynamics, or broader cultural shifts. Our approach combines creativity, state-of-the-art technology, and cross-disciplinary strategies. Partnering with industries and leveraging large datasets, we explore ambitious, under-researched inquiries to enhance human welfare.
