The School of Planning stands as Canada's sole institution providing planning education at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. While the Master of Planning (MPlan) program isn't CIP-accredited, all other programs hold recognition from the Canadian Institute of Planners. Our curriculum equips students with essential skills and diverse perspectives for thriving in professional planning careers. We actively encourage learners to broaden their academic horizons across the university to maximize their individual intellectual growth. Waterloo's School of Planning uniquely integrates municipal, urban, and regional planning approaches, offering comprehensive exposure to multiple planning disciplines while fostering specialization in chosen fields. Environmental interaction forms a fundamental aspect of human existence. Planning professionals require deep environmental understanding to advance sustainable development practices globally. Key environmental planning study areas encompass: Biological systems and ecological principles, Aquatic ecosystems and wetland management, Watershed dynamics, Forest conservation and park planning.
