The field of Earth and Environmental Sciences integrates geological principles with the examination of water systems and the structural characteristics of earth materials. Discover our world-class research initiatives, from safeguarding community water supplies to unraveling the secrets of Earth's subsurface phenomena. Our department provides diverse academic programs centered on Environmental Geology, conducting studies that analyze geological and hydrological mechanisms, assess contemporary and historical earth formations, evaluate human impacts on natural systems, and explore numerous related subjects. The University of Waterloo's Earth and Environmental Science program has gained global recognition for its exceptional research, concentrating on understanding geological and hydrological cycles, interpreting present and past environmental conditions, and studying how human activities affect these natural systems.

Qualification Requirements
The program is open to students who have completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree with a 75% average and who have outstanding academic credentials and a demonstrated ability to do original scholarly work.
A normal requirement is a background in geology or geological engineering, but other experience relevant to a candidate's research interests will be considered. Candidates will be evaluated on an individual basis.
University regulations permit that under exceptional circumstances, outstanding students with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree, can be admitted directly into the PhD program.
Before applying to the program, students are strongly advised to establish contact with potential supervisors. It is a good strategy to identify whether the potential supervisors that students would like to undertake research with have available positions and funding.

Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable. TOEFL 90 (writing 25, speaking 25), IELTS 7.0 (writing 6.5, speaking 6.5)
