The Department of Earth Sciences welcomes graduate students pursuing advanced degrees, including the Master of Applied Science (MASc), Master of Science (MSc), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), across diverse Earth Science disciplines. Students can also explore interdisciplinary programs through collaborations with departments like Civil Engineering, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, School of the Environment, Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science and Engineering. Faculty and graduate researchers have conducted studies across North America and globally, encompassing both terrestrial and marine environments. Qualification Requirements

A CV up to two pages in length.
A one page research statement. The research statement should be a statement of research interest or a proposed plan of study. In your statement, indicate potential advisors whom you have contacted and have expressed interest. You are advised to review your research statement with the faculty member who has expressed interest in supervising you.The font size should be no smaller than 12 point.
One set of official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended must be uploaded to the online application system.
Two letters of recommendation.
An appropriate, research oriented MSc degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
High academic standing in previous degrees equivalent to a B+ or higher (equivalent to a 3.3 on a 4 point scale) at the University of Toronto.
In exceptional cases, students with a high academic standing (equivalent to an A- or 3.7 on a 4-ponit scale) may be considered for admission to a 5-year PhD progam directly from a bachelor's degree.

For internet-based TOEFL, the minimum acceptable score is 22/30 for both the Writing and Speaking sections with an overall score of 93/120. This is equivalent to 580 on the paper-based TOEFL and a score of 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE). However, the Department of Earth Sciences requires a TOEFL score of 100 to ensure that the successful applicant can be a Teaching Assistant. A score of 85 is required on the MELAB, 7.0 on the IELTS (with at least 6.5 in each component)
