The Collaborative Water Program fosters interdisciplinary approaches to water-related studies. This distinctive initiative enables students to pursue specialized training in Biology while collaborating with peers from diverse departments through interdisciplinary core courses. Jointly administered by 11 departments across all six faculties at the University of Waterloo, this interdisciplinary program is facilitated by the Water Institute. Participants gain hands-on experience tackling complex water challenges, developing skills for effective teamwork across disciplines. Graduates emerge as water sector leaders equipped with cross-disciplinary communication abilities and collaborative problem-solving expertise.

The program welcomes both Master's and Doctoral candidates in thesis or research-based programs with a significant water-focused component to their studies.

Qualification Requirements

A 75% overall standing, or equivalent in a Master of Science (MSc) degree in a relevant field. Students holding degrees from institutions outside Canada may be required to submit Graduate Record Examination scores (GRE, Analytical and Quantitative) with their application. There is also an option of transferring from the Master's program to the Doctoral program. This is not a routine option, but can be approved on a case-by-case basis for suitably qualified individuals. Further information is available from the Department Graduate Officer.
