The Honours Studio Practice program equips students for careers in the creative arts by developing both practical and analytical abilities within an academic setting. First-year students begin with foundational courses FINE 100 (Studio Fundamentals) and FINEVCULT 101 (Art History and Visual Culture) to establish core artistic principles. During their second year, students select at least four specialized studio courses from over 20 options, exploring diverse mediums including drawing, painting, digital media, printmaking, sound, sculpture, photography, performance, installation, and wearable art. The third year emphasizes refining technical expertise while cultivating independent artistic projects. In the final year, students concentrate on producing a unified portfolio for display in the Honours Graduation Exhibition each March. This studio-based learning is complemented by studies in modern/contemporary art, visual culture, and interdisciplinary courses. The culminating fourth-year studio course covers professional skills like artwork documentation, exhibition installation, crafting artist statements, and preparing exhibition materials.
