During our two-year MFA program, you'll broaden your artistic practice while refining your creative vision. You'll have the chance to explore new creative boundaries in your personal studio space, participate in thought-provoking seminar conversations, and get guidance from our experienced instructors. The curriculum emphasizes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital media.
This program equips you for a career as a professional artist, blending conventional and innovative approaches. Following contemporary art traditions, we support work that transcends traditional classifications. You'll get consistent mentorship from your advisor and can teach an undergraduate class during your studies. Your culminating experience will be presenting a solo exhibition.
Learning Objectives
Participants in this program will:
develop knowledge of artistic processes and investigation, obtain hands-on teaching experience in modern art

Qualification Requirements
We will consider all applicants with a minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent, though a BFA is preferred. The Faculty of Graduate Studies requires a B average or better for admission.
Students who have not previously completed the equivalent of 6 units (4 courses) of Art History, 3 units (2 courses) of these at the 300 or 400 level, will be required to take additional courses at the University of Victoria before being granted an MFA.
English Language Proficiency Requirement: minimum IELTS 6.5 (no sub score below 6.0) / TOEFL minimum 90 (no section less than 20) or equivalent
