Our PhD program provides the highest level of research-focused education within our department. Through coursework, qualifying examinations, and a dissertation, you'll gain preparation for diverse careers in the humanities. You'll collaborate with renowned faculty in a department excelling in medieval/early modern studies, Victorian literature, modernism, book/media studies, digital humanities, and West Coast literature. An optional specialization in cultural, social, and political thought (CSPT) is available. Further credentials can be obtained via teaching positions, research assistantships, and collaborative program opportunities.

Qualification Requirements
- Applicants normally hold an MA (or equivalent) in English or a related discipline with a minimum average of A- in previous graduate courses.
- Preference is given to those who demonstrate strong preparation across a range of English literature, literary theory, and/or research methods. Previous academic experience with a language other than English is desirable.
