Experts in this field explore various literary and storytelling formats – including novels, poems, creative nonfiction, plays, TV shows, movies, graphic novels, cartography, and correspondence – to examine the breadth of American life. Our scholarly work spans from colonial times to today, with particular emphasis on U.S. culture since the 1800s. Professors offer both undergraduate and graduate classes covering all eras of American literature, while also supporting the Film Studies program through cinema-focused courses.
