The English Department at Memorial University explores Colonial and Postcolonial Studies through various lenses examining British imperialism's cultural and environmental legacies. Faculty research addresses key inquiries including: How do cultural encounters transform societies? What defines mixed cultural identities? What forms does colonial and postcolonial conflict take? Why does homeland connection matter? How do nations construct their identities? What enduring impacts has imperialism left across generations, ecosystems, and cultural landscapes?

Master's degree in English Literature with minimum 80 percent in graduate courses
Prospective students should ensure that their scores are are in the Departments preferred ranges

at least 70 band score on MUNTEL for Writing
25-30 on the Writing component of the Internet-based TOEFL
50-68 on the Structure and Written Expression section of the paper-based TOEFL
7-9 on the Writing component on the IELTS Academic test
70-90 on the Writing component of the CAEL test
5 or higher on the Writing component of Can-TEST
