The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies unequivocally condemns Russia's unjustified aggression toward sovereign Ukraine. We mourn the tragic civilian casualties, the displacement of countless Ukrainians, and the continuing humanitarian disaster. We reject the conduct of the Russian government and its supporters, both within and beyond Russia's borders, while acknowledging the courage of numerous Russians who have protested against this conflict. During this period of growing divisions, we appreciate the solidarity shown by people worldwide—whether Canadian, Ukrainian, Russian, or others—who resist the Russian regime's unlawful actions. We support Ukraine and its valiant defenders.
