The program demands fundamental German language skills (writing, reading, listening, and speaking) and is designed for students aiming to advance their studies in literature, history, philosophy, and political science. It can be undertaken alongside a degree program.
German Studies falls under the Language Training Institute in the Department of Linguistics within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
This program accommodates both full-time and part-time students, as well as those pursuing educational enrichment in topics connected to the development of German humanism from the Reformation to contemporary periods. The certificate can be earned simultaneously with, and enhances, major and minor programs in fields like history, humanities, philosophy, and political science.
The program requires basic proficiency in the German language (writing, reading, listening, and speaking), and is intended for students who wish to pursue further studies in literature, history, philosophy and political science, and may be completed in conjunction with a degree program.
If you've completed, or are about to complete, your grade 12 or senior year in a Canadian, American, or international high school.
English Language minimum requirement:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic): Overall 6.5 with no part less than 6.0
Cambridge English Qualifications: Overall score 176 with no part less than 169
