German serves as a key language for commerce, international relations, and travel across the European Union and Eastern Europe. Dive into the German language and its vibrant cultural heritage. While mastering the language, you'll explore German traditions and social structures through diverse lenses, including literary works, cinema, political theory, historical events, urban development, artistic movements, and gender studies.
Our program involves cross-faculty partnerships, allowing you to benefit from interdisciplinary teaching approaches. During advanced studies, you can choose relevant courses from other departments like history and political science to enhance your German Studies focus.
The German Studies program features two specialized tracks (Language, Literature & Culture; and Culture & Society) with adaptable degree pathways: Opt for a major or minor concentration, or select individual courses to supplement your primary field of study. Numerous classes are conducted in English, welcoming students from all academic backgrounds.
