Students enrolled in either program could explore their interests independently, but the Combined Degree Program (CDP) enables them to develop deeper knowledge and skills at the intersection of both fields. CDP participants typically focus on areas like: museum informatics, digital preservation of cultural heritage, policies around cultural information, the overlap between libraries, archives, and museums, digital archiving, and social media applications in museum settings. Those admitted to both programs may enroll simultaneously with approval from each Graduate Coordinator. The CDP is exclusively for full-time students. Completing both degrees through the CDP takes a minimum of three years rather than the four required if pursued separately, with a maximum completion timeframe of four years.
CDP participants must fulfill all mandatory coursework for both the MI and MMSt programs along with electives. This full-time program is structured for completion within 3 years (with a 4-year maximum limit).
