Since 1946, UofT Music has stood at the forefront of preparing music educators for schools, communities, and universities across Canada and internationally. The institution has also served as a vital hub for advancing research in educational methodologies and professional development. Numerous undergraduates opt to specialize in Music Education upon joining the Faculty of Music, often inspired by our alumni working in schools and community initiatives. Our program boasts a wide array of courses, with particular strengths in instrumental, choral, and world music teaching approaches. The curriculum covers music instruction from early childhood through adulthood, addressing topics like inclusivity, evolving technologies, and social justice within global and interdisciplinary contexts. Graduate students and faculty in Music Education lead pioneering work in cultural studies, gender research, vocal/instrumental teaching techniques, conducting, improvisation, community music initiatives, music therapy, and innovative research approaches.
