The Developmental Psychology and Education (DPE) program provides graduate studies culminating in MA, MEd, and PhD degrees. Participants can develop a comprehensive understanding of developmental psychology and human growth, examining their applications in educational and practical contexts involving children. Under faculty guidance, students complete core coursework in human development and research methods. The curriculum includes electives spanning diverse topics such as cognitive, social, and emotional development; instructional cognition (covering language, literacy, and mathematics); special education strategies; developmental neuroscience; advanced research techniques; early childhood policies; and childcare programs. The MA in DPE particularly prepares graduates for research careers, academic positions at universities or community colleges, and related professional pursuits.
An appropriate bachelor's degree with the equivalent of a University of Toronto A– or better. Although most applicants will have a degree in psychology, applicants with an appropriate bachelor's degree in cognitive science, computer science, linguistics, or a helping profession such as occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, physiotherapy, nursing, social work, or another discipline relevant to their specific program of study are also eligible to apply for admission.
